Plastic nameplates
Design Considerations:
The following are general design guidelines and all part specific issues will be evaluated.
- Allow for a standard draft angle of 7° minimum for ABS and 15º minimum for Acrylic.
- Thickness — .070" to .125" (standard).
- Maximum sizes — 7.0" x 26.0" or 8.5" x 16".
- Depth of recessed background should be
no more than half of overall part thickness.
- When decorating with color, incorporate a border between the colors to allow for paint masks.
- Colors applied to a recessed surface offer
more durability than colors on the face of a part.
- Keep locating and mounting lugs a minimum
of .120" from edge of part to edge of lug.
- Plastic gating — edge or tunnel gate.
- Radius all edges and corners.
- Crown flat surfaces — minimum .005".
- Textures — standard stipple finishes are available for background as are a variety of EDM textures.
- Parts can be applied with either lugs or adhesive tape appropriate for the specific surface.
- Heat reflection temperature — 176° to 216° F.
- Acrylic inserts decorated on the back surface can be assembled into the chrome plated bezels.
Manufacturing Considerations:
Plastic Molding
- Material: Platable gray ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene
Styrene). Parts can be injection molded to a tolerance
of ±.010" for first inch and ±.015" for each additional
inch.
Electroplating
- Electroplating plastic is a complex technology that Douglas
Corporation has perfected over a 25-year period. Our process
is designed to meet the most vigorous of exterior environments
and our various finishes meet and exceed all
requirements for accelerated corrosion testing.
Our plating operation includes deposited layers of
copper, tri-plex nickel and chromium.
- Finishes Available Include: Bright Chrome,
Brushed Chrome, Platinum Chrome,
Zirconium Gold
Decorative Finishes
- In addition to the various plated finishes,
Douglas will decorate your part with colors
of your choice by matching a color sample
or PMS (Pantone colors) number.
Applying Namplates:
- Adhesive Tapes: Open cell urethane foam tapes
with standard thickness from .032" to .062". Tape can
be a strip applied to recessed back or die cut for full coverage.
- Mounting Lugs: Standard lugs with 1/8" x 3/8" dimensions can be used with a fastener or part specific snap-fit lugs can be designed.
- Screw Mount: Counter-sunk holes can be designed into the part to the required size.
- Individual Letters: Adhesive tapes are used and the letters are pre-spaced and attached to a carrier strip for ease of application.
